MOCA - Helen Moravsky Dome of Night

This week I chose a piece called Dome of Night by Helen Moravsky.  This piece initially caught my eye because it has an image of The Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco.  This is one of my favorite structures, which I have visited 3 times, most recently this past August.  I was drawn to the collage-like style of the piece and the various filters the artist used.  The palace itself looks like it may have been edited using the emboss filter but also reminds me of an x-ray image. I also enjoy her use of layers to give it depth and dimension.  I also like how she place the two detailed pillars in the forefront to frame the palace  and provide a point of perspective.  She captures the way the palace and pond are lit up at night in real life in a very effective way, using the dark background and golden hues.  In looking through Helen Moravsky's gallery, it is clear that her style often involves architecture and she uses filters and backgrounds to almost transport these structures to new locations and give them unexpected surroundings.
